New Evidence on Gyntima® Menopause Shows Improvements in Menopausal Symptoms and Quality of Life

A new clinical study from AB-BIOTICS and Kaneka Probiotics demonstrates that Gyntima® Menopause can significantly improve menopausal symptoms and quality of life, offering a science-backed, natural approach to supporting women through the menopause transition.

From estrogen modulation to symptom relief

Estrogen decline during the menopause transition drives physical and psychological symptoms that impair well-being. Gut bacteria are part of that picture: an earlier randomized trial had already associated this three-strain probiotic formulaLevilactobacillus brevis KABP® 052, Lactiplantibacillus plantarum KABP® 051 and Pediococcus acidilactici KABP® 021 — with a slower decline in estrogen levels thanks to its β-glucuronidase activity on the estrobolome.

To test whether this blend could also improve symptoms and quality of life, researchers conducted a decentralized, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial with a real-world design in 245 perimenopausal and postmenopausal women aged 45 to 60, over three months.

What the trial showed

Women taking Gyntima® Menopause experienced significantly greater improvements than those receiving placebo:

  • Using the Menopause Rating Scale II (MRS II), researchers observed a significant reduction in overall menopausal symptom burden (p = 0.033).
  • Improvements were particularly evident in the somato-vegetative domain (p = 0.007), which includes common complaints such as hot flashes, sleep disturbances and heart discomfort.
  • The probiotic group also showed improvements in psychological well-being, including anxiety and depressive mood, with significant results observed in the per-protocol population (p = 0.040).
  • Importantly, these benefits translated into a better everyday experience. Women supplemented with Gyntima® Menopause reported a significant improvement in overall quality of life, as measured by the Utian Quality of Life (UQOL) questionnaire (P = 0.040).

A large unmet need in menopause care

Maria Rodríguez-Palmero, Medical Director at AB-BIOTICS and lead author on the study, commented:

“More than one billion women worldwide are currently experiencing or have gone through the menopausal transition, which profoundly impacts multiple aspects of health and quality of life. While scientific investment and innovation in this area have expanded over recent years, consumer research suggests that the vast majority of women feel poorly served by the solutions currently available to them. Research highlights a significant unmet need in menopause care, with only around 45% of European women reporting satisfaction with available options, and only 7% of peri- and postmenopausal women in the US being ‘very satisfied’ with over-the-counter options. The findings of this new study on Gyntima® Menopause are an important step toward changing that.

A first for probiotics in menopause

Under real-world conditions, this blend was associated with improvements in menopausal symptoms and quality of life on the MRS II and Utian QOL scales, with an ongoing clinical trial in Scotland further building the evidence supporting the formula and its effects. Together with the previous work on estrogen modulation, this makes it the first and only commercially available probiotic documented on both estrogen modulation and improved menopausal symptoms.

With growing consumer demand for natural, science-backed menopause solutions, these new study position Gyntima® Menopause as a differentiated ingredient for the next generation of women’s health products.
