Next Sunday 27th of June is World Microbiome Day. This event was founded in 2019 as an initiative to increase awareness of the microbiota, and unite all researchers and companies interested on the subject.
The 8th International Human Microbiome Consortium Congress (IHMC) is a major scientific event with the aim to to provide a better understanding about human microbiome. This year, it will be developed in a 100% digital format from 27 th to 29th of June, since fully digital format will allow to attract a large international audience and scientific community.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a very common functional gastrointestinal disorder that affects around 580 million people worldwide. It is a major women’s health issue since 2 out of 3 individuals who report IBS in the community are female.
The latest consensus guidelines (Rome IV) define IBS as: “A gut-brain disorder characterized by recurrent abdominal pain associated to changes in frequency or appearance of stools at least 1 day per week for the last 3 months” 1
IBS symptoms include abdominal pain, discomfort , bloating or distension and gut-specific anxiety.
All these features interfere with the daily life of many patients, having a significant detrimental effect in their quality of life.
The World Gastroenterology Organisation selected last year “Gut Microbiome” as the topic of the 2020 World Digestive Health Day (WDHD 2002).
